This 2,000 square foot permanent exhibit for the children's
gallery challenges the visitors to "use their five
senses to explore Chicago and uncover its past". Proto
fabricated the interactive components and exhibit elements,
including larger than life models. Through experience-based
learning and interactive technology, kids then discover
that history is all around them. The Postcard kiosk is
one interactive which gives the visitor the opportunity
to create their own personalized postcard with Chicago
as a backdrop and send it out as an email. The Sound room
challenges you with soundtracks of the past. Can you hear
the Great Chicago Fire or a Southside jazz band? Can you
smell the city's past? What's it feel like to be a Chicago
style hot dog? Can you catch a fly ball at Comiskey Park?
Can you ride a high wheel bicycle? Photographic murals,
graphics with bi-lingual text and media elements were coordinated
by Proto.
