"American Travels by Rail"
This 2,500 foot exhibition features a range of multimedia, including a replica of a Union Pacific ticket office with large photos of celebrities traveling by rail and video footage including black-and-white and color films of the dedication of the Golden Spike in 1939.
"America Travels by Rail" brings to life the travel and destinations Americans enjoyed from the 1930's until passenger service was transferred to Amtrak in 1971. Visitors are able to sit down and experience the accommodations in the life sized vignettes of dining, lounge, and coach cars.
The goal for more artifacts to be on display was achieved with the fabrication of these visible artifact storage cases. The new cases showcase hundreds of artifacts, including Union Pacific's extensive railroad china and silver collection. UP Museum Outreach Coordinator, Patricia LaBounty commented, "We truly have the best of both worlds now: interpretation and context as well as an outstanding display of objects."
